and sustainable on a working smallholding
a great starting point for quiet walks…
Rose Cottage (sleeps 2-4, one double, one twin, both with en-suites) is over the old stone bridge from Higher North Mill just up the lane from Quack Cottage. South-facing and slightly elevated it gets plenty of sun.
The large deck gives you long sweeping views over the river and down the valley and there’s a picnic bench with sunshade for alfresco dining. Above the raised banks of the decking is a small lawn, then a steeply-sloping flower and shrub bank behind. It’s fully fenced and ideal for kids and dogs to run around on.
Your own woodshed is opposite the cottage and there’s plenty of parking too. The lane becomes a track ‘Unsuitable for Vehicles’ beyond the cottage and is a great starting point for quiet walks. There’s a bbq and outdoor furniture on the deck and you’re welcome to enjoy the shared lawns by the stream too where there’s further seating.
The living room is cosy and comfy with a sofa and easy chairs, and a well-stocked bookcase. Both rooms have wood-burning stoves, wooden window seats and elm panelling. This is a very warm and cosy cottage.
Rose Cottage has a big, bright, sunny kitchen with dining table and chairs, and a fully-fitted modern kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge-freezer and its own washing machine.
Upstairs are two bedrooms: one double with an en-suite bathroom, and one twin with en-suite shower room. The rooms feature low window sills to make the most of the valley views and sky lights to bring in plenty of light.
We stayed at Mill Cottage, which was lovely in a great position for children to run around and feel safe, in the beautiful surroundings . The cottage was well equipped with everything you could need, Christine, Jade and John, were great hosts…
