Dog Friendly Holidays
We really welcome dogs – and are flexible on number, yes, really!
A dog is part of your family – and ours, and they’re just as welcome at Watermill Cottages as you are.
We’re at the end of a quiet, high-hedged typical Devon lane with a green lane beyond us so no through traffic, and lovely walks from your cottage door round the unspoilt valley and beyond. Three cottages have large fenced gardens, one has a walled riverside patio leading onto the woods, and one has an open patio a few steps from the shared lawn and stream.
Dogs love playing on the shared lawns, in the stream and exploring our ‘Robin Hood Land’ further down the valley as much as the kids do.
There’s over 20 acres of unspoilt wild nature in lawns, woods, meadows, and wetlands to enjoy. And if your dog isn’t good off the lead we have stock-fenced fields they can run in. There’s a hosepipe in the courtyard if the stream doesn’t do the trick!
We’re flexible on the number of dogs…
One Sheltie breeder enjoyed a lovely early summer week with her six dogs in Quack Cottage – the huge fenced garden was perfect for them.
Our free-range Muscovy ducks are used to well-behaved dogs and the sheep and lambs are in stock-fenced fields.
We ask that dogs are not allowed into the bedrooms. However, we do understand that it is not easy to teach new rules on holiday, so if you really do want your dog in the bedroom with you please bring your own bedding.
Slapton Sands is close by and is dog-friendly all year round, and there are many other dog-friendly beaches nearby.
The Strete Gate end is wider and has one of our favourite walks. There are loos and a refreshment van at popular times. The Torcross end has a village shop, pub and food. There’s parking and toilets at both ends of the beach and in the middle. Slapton has two dog-friendly pubs, The Tower Inn and The Queens Arms, both with gardens. The Queens Arms does takeaways too.
The Tradesmans Arms at Stokenham. The Green Dragon at Stoke Fleming, The Cricket Inn at Beesands by the beach (oh the crab soup!), The Millbrook Inn in South Pool are some of the many dog-friendly pubs in nearby villages.
Doodles absolutely loved it & our stay made particularly great by the welcome everyone gave to the dogs
