Acres...

of wild nature, lawns, woods, meadows, and wetlands to enjoy

Dog Friendly Holidays in The South Hams

We really welcome dogs – and are flexible on number, yes, really!

A dog is part of your family and they’re just as welcome at Watermill Cottages as you are.

We’re at the end of a quiet, high-hedged typical Devon lane with a green lane beyond us so no through traffic.  Lovely walks from your cottage door around the unspoilt valley and beyond to The Coast Path.  Barleycorn Cottage has a large fenced garden, Crownwheel Cottage has a walled riverside patio leading onto lawn and a wooded stroll by the brook, and Mill Cottage has an open patio a few steps from the shared lawn and stream.

Playtime…

Dogs love playing in the large fenced cottage gardens, on the shared streamside lawns, and splashing in the water – it’s a shallow trout stream with plenty of easy ways in.  And of course walking round green lanes in the valley and playing on the many dog-friendly beaches locally.

Six acres of unspoilt wild nature to enjoy – and if your dog isn’t good off the lead we have a stock-fenced field they can run in – check first that there’s no livestock in there especially at lambing time. There’s a hosepipe in the courtyard if the stream doesn’t do the trick!

We’re flexible on how many dogs you bring…

There’s plenty of space and no through traffic… Our free-range Muscovy ducks are used to well-behaved dogs and the sheep and lambs are in stock-fenced fields.

We ask that dogs are not allowed into the bedrooms. However, we do understand that it is not easy to teach new rules on holiday, so if you really do want your dog in the bedroom with you please bring all your own bedding.

Dog-friendly beaches…

Slapton Sands is close and is dog-friendly all year round –  one of many dog-friendly beaches nearby.

The Strete Gate end is wider and has one of our favourite walks. There are loos, and a refreshment van in high season. The Torcross end has loos, cafes, a pub and food. There’s parking and toilets at both ends of the beach.

Slapton has two dog-friendly pubs, The Tower Inn and The Queens Arms, both with gardens.  The Queens Arms does takeaways too. The King’s Arms in Strete is a 40 minute walk, is dog friendly and has sea views from the beer garden.  It’s recently added a kids’ play area.

The Tradesmans Arms and Church House Inn at Stokenham; The Green Dragon at Stoke Fleming; The Cricket Inn at Beesands by the beach (oh the crab soup!); The Millbrook Inn in South Pool; the cafes at Torcross, Stokeley Farm Shop and South Hams Brewery Tap Room are some of our dog friendly favourites nearby.

Stunning!

Doodles absolutely loved it & our stay made particularly great by the welcome everyone gave to the dogs
