Holiday in nature and rediscover what life is all about as you relax and unwind in one of our five pretty, comfy Watermill Cottages nestling in the unspoilt coastal Gara Valley. Enjoy a shallow trout stream, private cottage gardens, shared streamside lawns, firepit, woods and green lane walks in 20 acres of stunning scenery in the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in South Devon… Just a ten minute drive to Slapton Sands from the hamlet of Hansel, Slapton near Dartmouth.
Tastefully converted from the former mill building, barns & workers’ cottages around a old mill-house built in the 1750s each cottage offers you thick stone walls, beams, deep slate sills and a logburner. Each is individual in decor giving you spacious, comfortable accommodation, a modern fitted kitchen (with own washing machine, microwave, electric oven or range, kettle, toaster, fridge-freezer), bathrooms with baths and showers.
Relax and unwind in a pretty, authentic Devon holiday cottage near Slapton Sands & Dartmouth in the heart of the beautiful countryside and coast of the South Devon AONB. Five comfy self-catering cottages, in or around an 18thC former watermill set in 20 acres of coastal valley with a shallow trout stream. Green lane walks from your cottage door, ancient woods and grasslands, meadows, cricket bat willows, water meadows… all naturally wild and easy to explore.
We’re really dog-friendly, there’s no through traffic and plenty of space, plus we’re flexible on the number of dogs. A dog is part of your family and part of ours too. All cottages enjoy private fenced gardens or patios, have logburners, bbqs and outdoor seating, and you’re welcome to make the most of the shared streamside lawns where there’s a firepit and more seating.
Watermill Cottages is the perfect destination for getting away from it all… a dog-friendly, coastal retreat, eco-friendly, close to Slapton Sands and many other beaches and picturesque villages, with good restuarants, cafes and pubs. Join the The Coast Path at Slapton or borrow an OS map and explore green lanes, Dartmoor, footpaths and tracks, or simply wander round Dartmouth, Salcombe or Totnes and treat yourself to a cream tea.
Rewild yourself – look for kingfishers, glow-worms, dippers, otters, trout, yellow wagtails, and dormice, it’s old land here and the pretty Gara Brook runs through it all down to Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve. Enjoy star-gazing – as there’s no light pollution, we see The Milky Way! As there’s no through traffic, it’s a green lane beyond us, it’s so peaceful and safe for pets and kids to play.
Wander round the valley, explore the wilderness or walk up to Strete and the pub, it’s only 40 minutes and has great sea views. Or just relax in your own cottage garden. Feel real peace and tranquility here in a beautiful coastal valley almost untouched by the modern world. A sustainable holiday too – a water turbine generates electricity using the old mill leat and there’s free electric car charging for guests.
Holidays like they used to be, space to relax, play and explore… short breaks available all year, outside school holidays. Call Christine, John or Jade on 01803 770219 or email email@example.com
