Holiday in nature and rediscover what life is all about as you relax and unwind in one of our five pretty, comfy Watermill Cottages nestling in the unspoilt coastal Gara Valley.  Enjoy a shallow trout stream, private cottage gardens, shared streamside lawns, firepit, woods and green lane walks in 20 acres of stunning scenery in the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in South Devon… Just a ten minute drive to Slapton Sands from the hamlet of Hansel, Slapton near Dartmouth.

Tastefully converted from the former mill building, barns & workers’ cottages around a old mill-house built in the 1750s each cottage offers you thick stone walls, beams, deep slate sills and a logburner.  Each is individual in decor giving you spacious, comfortable accommodation, a modern fitted kitchen (with own washing machine, microwave, electric oven or range, kettle, toaster, fridge-freezer), bathrooms with baths and showers.

Enjoy winding down in your own private garden or patio with bbq & outdoor furniture. Watermill Cottages is the perfect destination for getting away from it all…  a rural, coastal retreat, eco-friendly, not far from Slapton Sands.

Enjoy green lane walks from your cottage door, with a 24 hour wildlife channel right outside your window. There’s great star-gazing as there’s no light pollution or through traffic. Relax in private gardens or by the stream on the shared lawns with firepit,.. explore meadows and ancient woods, undisturbed water meadows… a shallow trout stream runs through it all on to Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve.  Feel real peace and tranquility here in a beautiful coastal valley almost untouched by the modern world.

Holidays like they used to be, space to relax, play and explore… We welcome free-range kids and well-behaved dogs and are flexible on number.., short breaks available all year, outside school holidays. Close to Slapton Sands and Dartmouth. Call Christine on 01803 770219

An eco-friendly, sustainable stay too  –  a water turbine generates electricity using the old mill leat.  We grow meat, eggs, veg, on a 20 acre smallholding and press apples for juice & cider in autumn half term.  Help feed the ducks and hens, sheep & lambs in spring, and meet the cows. We sell homegrown, soy-free meat, eggs and sometimes veg to our guests.

Firework free so ideal for nervous dogs in autumn.

Just keeps getting better and better!

We’ve been to Watermill Cottages almost every year since 2007, and have an amazing time every year. The setup is perfect for holidaying with friends or extended family, and just as nice as a private getaway. Super kid-friendly and dog-friendly as well…

We welcome groups of families and friends, the cottages are perfect for combining. We’ve hosted writers, painters, horticulturalists, film-makers, bird-watchers, alternative therapists, photographers, poets, gardeners, growers, green woodworkers, walkers, runners, swimmers, fishers, cyclists – all love the natural relaxation of an untouched valley with a stream, birdsong and traffic-free walks.

Use our PodPoint, electric car charging point, to charge your electric car with ‘homegrown’ electricity generated by our onsite water turbine.

We’re all about holidays like they used to be… away from it all…
